Below are brief descriptions of the primary activities and responsibilities of the Master Gardener Society of Oakland County (MGSOC) service committees.
Charles L. Bowers Farm
The Bowers Farm is part of the Bloomfield Hills School District and the largest volunteer project of MGSOC. Be a part of the design and maintenance of over 30 gardens at this working school, which will now be an event center also.
Annual Educational Garden Conference
Assist in planning, organization and presentation of one of Michigan’s BEST educational conferences – “Gardening and All That Jazz.”
Communications
Assist in the dissemination of information about MGSOC to its members and the general public, including postings to the MGSOC Website, Facebook page, and E-blasts, as well as to MSUE and other outside publications.
Corresponding Secretary
Send messages of support to our MGSOC members and their families during an illness or family tragedy.
Door Prize & Raffle Coordinator
Procure Door Prizes and/or Raffle Prizes for monthly MGSOC General Meetings, the annual “Gardening and All That Jazz” Educational Conference, and other events as needed.
Fundraising
Assist in activities, functions, or sales aimed at raising monies for MGSOC use.
Hospitality & Hospitality Greeter
Assist in providing hospitality food coordination and setup and greeting members and guests at MGSOC meetings and functions.
Membership
Assist in the maintenance of membership rolls and in increasing membership by recruiting new members at MSUE Master Gardener training classes and other events. Coordinate the preparation and distribution of MGSOC directories.
Programs
Assist in the planning and production of the educational portion of general membership meetings, including securing speakers and meeting facilities.
Trips and Tours
Assist in the planning and coordination of trips and tours of special interest to gardeners and MGSOC members.
