General Meeting – Speaker: Lisa Jaroch “Four Season Organic Farming in Michigan”

Lisa will share her story of farming according to “USDA Organic Standards” year round using high tunnels for season extension. You will get a colorful glimpse into her past, present challenges and future dreams. She will enlighten you to current farming practices being used on the farm and the health benefits it provides to the community.

Lisa was born in Erie, Pennsylvania and is one of eight children. She moved to Michigan at a young age and has been a resident most of her life. Professionally, Lisa is a registered Landscape Architect who worked in Southeast Michigan from 1994-2011. During that time she worked as a designer on various projects including master planning parks, greenways, residential design, construction administration and community redevelopment. In 2011 she left the corporate world and attended the Student Organic Farmer Training Program at MSU to become a certified Organic Farmer. In 2013 Cold Frame Farm was born on 27 acres in Romeo, Mich, the place she calls home. There she farms a variety of vegetables, herbs, raspberries, strawberries and flowers sustainably, with the goal to become USDA Certified Organic. Currently she farms 2 acres in season, as well as 3- 30×96 high tunnels throughput the four seasons. Her markets include retail at the farm along with 2 local restaurants.
