HPS is ending 2019 with style with 2 outstanding presentations by special guest speaker, Tim Wood. We sure hope you are able to attend both presentations. If you can only make one of them, that is fine too.

First Presentation: “Breakthroughs Shrubs: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.”
Over the last 20 years, we have seen an incredible amount of plant breeding breakthroughs that has changed the way we use plants, and as a result, have changed our gardens and landscapes. Some of these breakthroughs happened quickly, while others resulted from incremental improvements over time. Plant hunter, plant breeder, and plant prognosticator Tim Wood will shed light on the most interesting, game-changing genetics, the people that dreamed them up, and how these inventions have changed the course of plant breeding and development.

Second Presentation: “The Hunt for New and Better Hydrangeas.”

Join Tim Wood, The Plant Hunter, as he highlights the species of hydrangeas that can be grown in Michigan.  You will learn which ones are best suited for our climate, the most reliable blooming and how to care for each type. Come see the newest and best varieties on the market and the latest breeding trends and what we can expect in the near future. If you love hydrangeas this is the talk for you.

Biography of Tim Wood:

Tim Wood has this really tough job at Spring Meadow – he travels the world looking for new plants for the Proven Winners plant brand. He gets to meet fun people and sample the local food, beer and wine – someone has to do it! He is a fourth generation plantsman that started on his father’s nursery at the age of 8. His on the job training came at Longwood Gardens, The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, the Chicago Botanic Garden, Kingwood Center and Zelenka Nursery. He has bred over 100 patented plants, many of which are grown around the world. He has published articles and photographs in major nursery and gardening magazines, hosted a radio show and published three books; “Tree and Shrub Gardening for Michigan,” “The Best Garden Plants” and “Gardening Month by Month.” You can buy’em Amazon-They’re great gifts!
